Pune: New Judicial Court Inaugurated in Paud; Justice Mohite-Dere Urges Legal Fraternity to Uphold Citizens’ Faith

Paud, 3rd August 2025: The judiciary is not just a structure made of bricks and cement but a temple of justice that safeguards the rights of citizens and strengthens democracy, said Justice Revati Mohite-Dere of the Bombay High Court. She emphasized that judges and lawyers have a crucial role in reinforcing public faith in the justice delivery system.
Justice Mohite-Dere was addressing a gathering during the inauguration of the full-time Civil Court (Junior Division) and Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Paud, located in Mulshi taluka of Pune district.
Also present at the ceremony were Justice Sandeep Marne and Justice Arif Doctor of the Bombay High Court; Principal District and Sessions Judge Mahendra K. Mahajan; First JMFC of Paud Sagar Mohite; Mulshi MLA Shankar Mandekar; Maharashtra and Goa Bar Council President Adv. Vitthal Konde-Deshmukh, Vice President Adv. Rajendra Umap, Member Adv. Harshad Nimbalkar, Ayubkhan Pathan, Pune Bar Association President Adv. Hemant Zanjad, and several senior advocates and government officials.
Justice Infrastructure Is Key to Equitable Access
“Justice delayed is justice denied,” said Justice Mohite-Dere. “The legal profession is an integral part of the judicial system. Lawyers, being the custodians of citizens’ rights, must help reduce delays in justice delivery.”
She added that justice infrastructure must be strengthened so that common citizens do not face undue hardship in accessing courts. “The rising number of legal cases reflects the trust people have in the judiciary. It is our collective responsibility to preserve and enhance that faith,” she said.
She further encouraged young lawyers to practice with honesty and integrity under the guidance of experienced legal professionals, stressing that justice is a form of public service.
Pune Handles 13% of Maharashtra’s Cases: Justice Marne
Justice Sandeep Marne noted that Pune is the largest judicial district in the country and contributes to 13 percent of Maharashtra’s total pending cases.
“To ease the pressure on the Shivajinagar court complex, new courts are being established across the district. Mulshi taluka, which is witnessing rapid growth and increasing land transactions due to rising tourism and development, urgently needed a local court. This court will ensure faster and more efficient justice for local residents,” Justice Marne said.
Other Dignitaries Present
Justice Arif Doctor and Principal District Judge Mahendra Mahajan also addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of accessible justice in rural and fast-developing areas like Mulshi.
Also in attendance were Joint Secretary of Law and Justice Department Vilas Gaikwad, Pune Zilla Parishad CEO Gajanan Patil, Deputy CEO Waghmare, Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajendra Chopde, Tehsildar Vinay Kumar Chobe, and Group Development Officer Sudhir Bhagwat.
The event was organized by the Mulshi Lawyers Association, led by its President Adv. Sambhaji Balkawade and members including Adv. Sanjay Marne, Adv. Yogesh Sathe, Adv. Ranjit Temghare, and Adv. Amol Shitole.
District Judges Arvind Waghmare, Vilas Kachre, and Kishore Shinde also assisted in the planning.
Adv. Balkawade delivered the welcome address, while JMFC Sagar Mohite proposed the vote of thanks.
