Gurugram, 3rd August 2025: A routine evening walk inside an upscale residential complex on Golf Course Road turned into a terrifying ordeal for a woman after she was viciously attacked by a pet Husky. The dog sank its teeth into her hand and refused to release its grip for several seconds, even as multiple people tried to intervene. The entire attack, which lasted over 15 seconds, was captured on CCTV footage and has since sparked fresh concerns over pet safety in housing societies.

The shocking visuals show the woman strolling along the complex’s pedestrian pathway with companions when the Husky, being walked by another resident, suddenly lunges at her. The force of the attack knocks her to the ground. Despite the pet parent tugging at the leash and others kicking the dog in a desperate bid to stop the assault, the canine maintains its hold, brutally biting into the woman’s hand. She is seen writhing in pain until the dog is finally restrained and pulled away. The injured woman was then assisted by her companions.

The incident took place on Sunday evening and has sent ripples across NCR’s residential communities, particularly as it involves a domesticated pet rather than a stray. While attacks by stray dogs have been widely reported, this case highlights the growing unease about pet behaviour within private housing complexes.

Over the past year, residents in several societies across Delhi NCR have raised complaints regarding poorly trained or aggressive pets posing a threat to neighbours. Calls for stricter housing society regulations on pet handling and movement have intensified, with some RWAs already imposing leash rules and designated walking zones.

This latest attack comes at a time when India is already grappling with an alarming surge in stray dog incidents. Just earlier this month, a 55-year-old man named Bhikhari Yadav succumbed to injuries after being mauled by a pack of stray dogs during a morning walk in a Delhi park. His death sparked widespread panic among residents and daily walkers.

The recurring attacks have attracted the attention of the judiciary and political circles alike. Congress MP Karti Chidambaram recently wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding the formation of a national task force to address the stray dog crisis. The Supreme Court too has taken cognizance of the matter, given the mounting rabies cases and public safety concerns.

While no official police complaint has been confirmed in the Gurugram pet attack case as yet, residents have begun demanding accountability and clear protocols to prevent such horrifying incidents from recurring.
