Wagholi: Tempo Hits Two-Wheeler, Man Critically Injured; Fourth Accident in Five Days on Pune Nagar Highway
Wagholi, 5th August 2025: A 45-year-old man was critically injured while his son narrowly escaped after a tempo rammed into their two-wheeler near Kesanand Phata on the Pune Nagar Highway on Monday evening. The victim, identified as Tukaram Ithape, a resident of Wagholi, was rushed to a private hospital where his condition remains critical, according to doctors.
This marks the fourth road accident in the Wagholi-Lonikand stretch in just five days, raising serious concerns about road safety in the area. In all four incidents, two-wheelers were hit from behind by speeding four-wheelers, resulting in three fatalities, including a young woman.
According to preliminary information, Ithape and his son were heading towards Pune city when the tempo struck their vehicle in front of Nakoda Automobiles near Kesanand Phata. While Ithape sustained severe injuries, his son escaped unharmed. Locals immediately rushed to help and shifted him to a nearby private hospital.
All the vehicles involved in the recent accidents reportedly fled the scene, prompting calls for stricter traffic enforcement and speed monitoring. Residents and commuters in Wagholi say that while the frequency of such accidents had reduced in recent months, the “accident season” has returned, mainly due to rash driving and lack of traffic discipline.
Authorities are yet to identify the tempo involved in Monday’s incident. Police investigations are underway.
