CCTV Surveillance to Be Increased at MSRTC Bus Stands Across Pune Division

Pune, 5th August 2025: In response to the recent incidents of violence at Pune’s Swargate bus stand, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has initiated a major safety overhaul at bus stations across the state. As part of this, CCTV surveillance will be expanded, and new security measures are being implemented to ensure commuter safety.

A team from MSRTC’s security committee inspected the Shivajinagar and Pimpri-Chinchwad depots, as well as the Dapodi workshop on Monday. Locations for new CCTV cameras were identified during the visit. So far, eight out of 14 depots in the Pune division have been surveyed. The remaining six are expected to be inspected within the next three to four days.

Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has directed officials to take immediate and concrete steps to enhance security. His instructions include:
Deployment of 848 security guards across 48 major bus stations
Improved lighting at all ST stations
Strict control over hawkers and food vendors near stations
Installation of additional CCTV cameras at bus stations and surrounding areas

Earlier, inspections were carried out at ST depots in Pune station, Swargate, Talegaon Dabhade, Rajgurunagar, Manchar, and Bhimashankar.

The inspection team included Divisional Transport Manager Sachin Shinde, Safety and Vigilance Officer Shankar Lade, Accounts Officer Rochan Gayadhani, Divisional Civil Engineer Ram Rashinkar, and Mechanical Engineer Smita Kulkarni.

“A survey is underway to increase the number of CCTV cameras at ST stations. It has been observed that certain areas require additional surveillance to ensure passenger safety,” said Sachin Shinde, Divisional Transport Manager, ST Corporation.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has instructed the State Road Development Corporation to release ₹1,220 crore immediately for the much-awaited Ring Road project in Pune.
