Mumbai/Pune, 18th August 2025: A low-pressure system has developed over the Bay of Bengal, intensifying monsoon activity across Maharashtra. As a result, heavy to very heavy rainfall is lashing the Konkan coastal belt and the ghats of central Maharashtra.

According to the forecast, a red alert has been issued for several parts of Konkan and central Maharashtra, while parts of Pune and Marathwada remain under an orange alert. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning to residents about the potential for flooding, waterlogging, and disruptions to daily life in vulnerable areas.

The weather department further stated that rainfall intensity is likely to remain high for the next two days in Konkan, after which the alert level will be reduced to orange, and subsequently to yellow in about three days as conditions begin to ease.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours, and follow safety guidelines issued by local administration.
