Pune, 19th August 2025: With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting heavy rainfall in Pune over the next few days, the Forum for IT Employees (FITE) has appealed to the government and IT companies to make work from home (WFH) mandatory.

In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), FITE tagged elected representatives and government agencies, urging them to take urgent steps to ease the burden on employees and civic authorities. The forum pointed out that most IT firms already operate in a hybrid model, and shifting employees to WFH temporarily would not affect work delivery.

The post highlighted the daily struggles of IT professionals due to Pune’s current infrastructure challenges, including waterlogging, pothole-ridden roads, and flooded underpasses.

“Heavy rains predicted in Pune for the coming days, yet no steps taken to make WFH mandatory. With Pune’s infra condition – broken roads, flooded underpasses, and poor drainage – WFH is the need of the hour,” FITE stated.

The forum said allowing employees to work remotely would reduce traffic congestion, lower stress on civic bodies engaged in flood management, and provide much-needed relief to the IT workforce in Hinjawadi and other tech hubs.

The appeal comes at a time when traffic snarls and waterlogging have already been reported across several parts of the city following overnight rainfall. Commuters have raised concerns over long delays and unsafe travel conditions.

Hashtags such as #Hinjawadi, #ITpark, #WFH, and #RebootingHinjawadi have started trending locally, reflecting growing demands from Pune’s IT community for immediate policy intervention.
