Mumbai/Pune, 23rd August 2025: Electric four-wheeler passenger vehicles and e-buses can now travel toll-free on the Atal Setu, Pune–Mumbai Expressway, and Samruddhi Mahamarg from Friday. The decision, part of Maharashtra’s push toward sustainable transport, was confirmed by state transport commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar.

The exemption applies to both privately owned and government-operated electric four-wheelers, including passenger cars, state transport buses, and other urban public transport e-vehicles. However, electric goods carriers will not receive toll waivers.

This move aligns with the Maharashtra Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy announced earlier in April, aimed at encouraging greater adoption of clean mobility.

Mumbai has already witnessed steady growth in EV adoption, with official figures showing 25,277 registered electric two-wheelers and around 13,000 electric cars. The overall EV count in the city has now crossed 43,000 across categories.

The Atal Setu, a key connector for Mumbai, currently handles about 60,000 vehicles every day. Authorities expect the new toll exemption to provide a financial incentive for more people to switch to electric transport while also reducing emissions along high-traffic corridors.
