Hadapsar Traffic Congestion: Long Queues of Vehicles Leave Commuters, Residents Frustrated
Hadapsar, 8th August 2026: Traffic congestion in the Hadapsar area is becoming increasingly serious. On Thursday, from around 10 am, long queues of vehicles were seen at Magarpatta Chowk, Gadital Chowk, Gandhi Chowk, Ramtekdi Flyover, Magarpatta Flyover and Hadapsar Flyover. Motorists, commuters, residents and students were stuck in traffic for hours, causing significant inconvenience.
Despite four flyovers being constructed within a stretch of just three kilometres, the traffic congestion problem remains unresolved due to a lack of effective traffic planning. Citizens said the situation at major junctions is worsening day by day, with several delayed roads proposed under the Development Plan (DP) being a major reason for the congestion.
Several roads measuring 30, 24, 18 and 12 metres in width were proposed under the Development Plan submitted in 1987 and approved in 1998. However, despite several years having passed, many of these roads have still not been completed.
As a result, the increasing number of vehicles is putting tremendous pressure on the existing roads, further worsening the traffic situation.
Hadapsar’s elected representatives have held important positions such as Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Standing Committee Chairman and Leader of the Opposition. However, the roads proposed under the Development Plan have still not been developed. Citizens are now questioning why Hadapsar has failed to see adequate development despite having such political representation.
Encroachments under the flyovers, along Solapur Road and at major junctions and roads in the area are also obstructing traffic. Citizens have questioned why the Hadapsar-Mundhwa Regional Office has failed to take action against illegal onion and potato vendors operating in front of Minister Market, as well as other encroachments.

“I have raised the issue of traffic congestion in the Hadapsar Assembly constituency in the Legislative Assembly. I am making efforts to ensure that maximum funds are allocated for the area. Around ₹7,500 crore has been earmarked for the proposed flyover project between Fatimanagar and Yavat. Metro work is also expected to begin soon. These projects will help resolve the traffic congestion problem in the area,” said MLA Chetan Tupe.
Four flyovers have been constructed in the area. However, citizens question their purpose if commuters continue to remain stuck in traffic. To resolve the issue, the Pune Municipal Corporation, traffic police and elected representatives need to coordinate and implement effective measures.
Over the past 28 years, not a single major road proposed under Hadapsar’s Development Plan has been fully developed. Funds have not been made available for these roads. Citizens allege that the lack of planning by the administration and elected representatives has resulted in the traffic problem becoming increasingly severe.
