Rs 37 Crore Fund Approved for Pune Grand Challenge Tour Cycle Competition Route
Pune, 24th August 2025: Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday announced that Rs 37 crore will be allocated for road development along the route of the upcoming Pune Grand Challenge Tour cycle competition. The funds include Rs 2 crore from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Rs 35 crore from the District Planning Committee.
The international-level cycling competition aims to put Pune district on the global tourism map. To ensure smooth execution, multiple agencies including Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), PMRDA, the Public Works Department (PWD), and the Zilla Parishad have been directed to work in coordination.
Roadworks Deadline Set
Pawar has ordered that all roadworks along the competition route be completed by November 30. “All agencies must finish the required road development works within the deadline. A musical procession will also be organized to mark the cycling event,” he said after chairing an administrative review meeting.
He added that PMC and PCMC will fund works on their respective stretches of road, while PWD and PMRDA will jointly handle other parts of the route. Tenders will be floated immediately, and to save time, the post-tender waiting period will be reduced from 15 days to seven.
State Support for Security
Pawar further stated that the state government will provide necessary funds for police arrangements during the competition. Review meetings will be held every 15 days to monitor progress, and the next meeting will assess the pace of work based on Friday’s directives.
The Pune Grand Challenge Tour is expected to attract international cyclists and boost tourism in the district.
