Khadakwasla, 26th August 2025: A group of seven youngsters, including three women, was rescued on Monday evening after they lost their way while trekking at Sinhagad Fort amid heavy rain and dense fog. The operation was carried out jointly by Pune Rural Police, local residents, and the Haveli disaster management team.

Inspector Sachin Wangade of Haveli police said the trekkers had strayed off the designated route and ended up stuck on a precarious slope. “The spot where they halted was extremely slippery. They could neither climb up nor find a way down safely. They immediately informed their friends, family members, and the police control room, following which a rescue effort was launched,” Wangade explained.

Rescue teams faced difficulties due to the weather and terrain. “It took nearly two hours to bring them down safely, but with the help of locals and disaster management volunteers, the operation was successful,” the inspector added.

Authorities have once again urged adventure enthusiasts to stick to marked trails and avoid trekking during adverse weather conditions. “The monsoon brings both beauty and danger to forts like Sinhagad. Trekkers must remain cautious and follow safety guidelines,” an officer said.

Hyderabad Youth Found After Going Missing
In a separate development, a 24-year-old man from Hyderabad who had been reported missing from Sinhagad Fort on August 20 was traced late Sunday night. He was found in a weak condition and admitted to a private hospital.

Inspector Wangade confirmed the update. “The youth is out of danger and receiving treatment. However, he has not been cooperating with the police during questioning, so the circumstances of his disappearance are still unclear,” he said.

Both incidents have prompted the police to reiterate safety warnings for visitors to the historic fort, which continues to attract large crowds of trekkers during the monsoon season.
