Pune, 27th August 2025: With large crowds expected at riverbeds and ghats during Ganesh immersion, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the fire department have put in place extensive safety measures to prevent accidents. From August 27 to September 6, firemen and lifeguards will be deployed round-the-clock at 15 major immersion ghats across the city.
Police personnel will also be stationed at riverbeds, streams, and drains to regulate the crowd and ensure public safety.
Security at Key Ghats
The major ghats identified for enhanced safety include Amriteshwar Ghat, Pulachi Wadi, Nataraj Cinema Ghat, Omkareshwar, Vriddheshwar, Garware College, Panchaleshwar, Ashtabhuja Temple, Sangam Ghat, Vitthal Temple, Bappu Ghat, Thosar Paga Ghat, Chima Udyan (Yerwada), Dattawadi Ghat, and Warje Crematorium. These sites attract the highest number of devotees during the immersion procession.
To prevent mishaps, PMC has arranged lifeguards, rescue boats, and other essential safety equipment at these ghats.
Lighting and Electrical Safety
In addition to rescue arrangements, PMC has installed special lighting systems at crowded immersion sites to improve visibility at night. The civic body has also completed an inspection of street lights across the city. Officials from the electricity department confirmed that checks were carried out to identify and rectify hazardous infrastructure, including rusty electric poles, broken junction boxes, and feeder pillars.
Authorities have appealed to citizens to follow safety instructions and cooperate with on-ground staff to ensure a safe and smooth immersion process.
