Railway News: Satish Kumar’s Tenure as Chairman and CEO of Railway Board Extended by One Year

New Delhi, 28th August 2025: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension of Satish Kumar’s tenure as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Railway Board for a further period of one year, effective from September 1, 2025, on re-employment contract basis.

A 1986 batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), Kumar has served for over 34 years in Indian Railways. Before being appointed as the Chairman and CEO, he was Member, Traction and Rolling Stock, overseeing critical aspects of traction and rolling stock across the railway network.

Kumar has held key positions across different divisions, zones, and production units, including the Jhansi Division of the erstwhile Central Railway, Diesel Locomotive Works in Varanasi, North Eastern Railway, Patiala Locomotive Works, Lucknow Division of Northern Railway, Jaipur Division of North Western Railway, and the North Central Railway. In November 2022, he took charge as the General Manager of North Central Railway, Prayagraj.

One of his most significant contributions has been the development of the Fog Safe Device, an innovation that has played a vital role in ensuring safe train operations during foggy conditions. Widely deployed in northern India, the device has helped reduce risks caused by low visibility in the winter months.

Kumar is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Operation Management and Cyber Law from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). His educational background and career trajectory reflect a blend of technical expertise and leadership in railway operations and innovations.
