Thergaon Hospital Achieves Milestone with First Successful Urology Surgery
Pimpri, 29th August 2025: Public healthcare in Pimpri-Chinchwad has crossed an important milestone. The newly inaugurated Thergaon Hospital, run by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), has successfully performed its first-ever urology surgery, signaling a new chapter in advanced civic medical services.
The landmark case involved a 64-year-old patient suffering from multiple kidney tumors alongside serious health complications, including diabetic ketoacidosis, left ventricular hypertrophy, and diastolic dysfunction. These conditions made the operation extremely high-risk, demanding precise planning and seamless teamwork among specialists.
Before the surgery, doctors from the anesthesiology and medicine departments worked to stabilize the patient’s condition. The anesthesia team—Dr. Archana Gandhi, Dr. Pooja Kulkarni, Dr. Poonam Mane, and Dr. Arjit Repuria ensured constant monitoring of blood sugar, respiration, and cardiac function during the operation.
The complex procedure was led by urology experts Dr. Sunil Palwe and Dr. Hanumant Phad, who successfully removed a massive 10×10 cm tumor spread across the kidney’s upper and lower regions. Despite the patient’s critical condition, the surgery concluded smoothly without complications.
Oversight and guidance were provided by Dr. Laxman Gophane (Health Medical Officer) and Dr. Abhaychandra Dadewar (Additional Health Medical Officer), with support from Hospital Head Dr. Rajendra Phirke, Dr. Sanjay Sonekar, and the dedicated nursing and operation theatre staff.
“This surgery is a matter of pride for PCMC’s healthcare system. It demonstrates our ability to provide advanced treatment within civic hospitals, ensuring citizens don’t always have to rely on private facilities,” said PCMC Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate.
Echoing the sentiment, Dr. Laxman Gophane highlighted the collaborative spirit, stating, “The success was only possible because of the excellent coordination between anesthesiology, medicine, urology, and nursing teams. This reflects the true strength of teamwork in public healthcare.”
For the patient, the surgery was life-saving. For Pimpri-Chinchwad, it was symbolic, proof that municipal hospitals can deliver specialized, high-quality treatment close to home.
With this achievement, Thergaon Hospital’s urology department has set the stage for more advanced procedures in the future, strengthening trust in PCMC’s ongoing mission to expand accessible and affordable healthcare for all citizens.
