Pune University Allocates Additional Hostel Floors, Easing Student Accommodation Concerns
Pune, 29th August 2025: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has addressed student concerns over hostel admissions by deciding to allocate three floors of Hostel No. 10 to students. This move will provide accommodation for an additional 320 students, ensuring that all applicants now secure a place in the hostel.
Student organizations had been demanding that every student be provided with hostel accommodation. To press their demands, several students staged a protest outside the university’s main building.
Known as the “Oxford of the East,” Pune University attracts students from across India and abroad, but until now, not all were guaranteed hostel admission. Previously, a total of 570 students had been accommodated across Hostels No. 1 to 9, leaving 346 students on the waiting list. With the opening of Hostel No. 10 for admissions, the waiting list is expected to be cleared, offering relief to students and their families.
