Lakhs to Join Ganesh Immersion in Pune; PMC Deploys Health Teams and 30 Ambulances
Pune, 6th September 2025: As Ganeshotsav draws to a close, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has made extensive health arrangements to ensure the safety of lakhs of devotees expected to participate in the Ganesh Visarjan procession on Anant Chaturdashi, Saturday (September 6).
PMC’s health department has deployed 15 medical teams, 80 medical officers, and around 200 health workers across immersion routes and ghats. Separate teams will be stationed in crowded areas, with circle and regional officers coordinating the response. Thirty ambulances, including PMC vehicles and 108 emergency services, have been kept on standby.
Deputy Health Officer Dr. Kalpana Baliwant said that the arrangements will cater not only to devotees but also to mandal workers, dhol-tasha troupe members, and artists performing tableaux, who may require urgent medical assistance during the long immersion procession.
A special health ward has been operating for the past 11 days at Belbag Chowk, in front of Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Mandal. The ward is equipped with three ICU beds and will remain functional till September 7. So far, more than 2,000 citizens have availed of its services. Additionally, two oxygen beds have been arranged in collaboration with PMC and Muralidhar Anna Mohol Vichar Manch.
On Saturday and Sunday, 12 OPDs of PMC health departments will remain open, with 10 beds reserved at Kamala Nehru Hospital. Despite the holiday, about 300 medical officers and employees will be on duty to ensure uninterrupted services.
PMC officials said that the emergency system has been designed to provide immediate relief in case of health emergencies during the immersion, which typically continues late into the night and attracts massive crowds.
