UIDAI to Launch e-Aadhaar Mobile App by End of 2025, Simplifying Updates with AI Security
New Delhi, 8th September 2025: The process of updating Aadhaar details is set to become faster and more convenient, with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) preparing to launch a new mobile application, tentatively called e-Aadhaar, by the end of this year. The app will enable Aadhaar holders to make corrections to their personal details, such as name, date of birth, address, and mobile number, directly from their smartphones.
One Platform, Multiple Services
Currently, most Aadhaar updates require visiting enrollment centers. The upcoming e-Aadhaar app aims to serve as a one-stop solution, allowing users to make almost all changes digitally. Only biometric updates, such as fingerprints and iris scans, will continue to require in-person verification from November onward.
AI-Powered Security
To enhance security, the app will feature Artificial Intelligence and facial recognition login (Face ID). This is expected to reduce dependence on passwords and OTPs, providing stronger protection against fraud and identity misuse.
The UIDAI plans to integrate the app with various government databases to simplify the document verification process. Records from birth certificates, PAN, passports, ration cards (PDS), MNREGA, and even electricity bills could be automatically fetched and validated. For example, a new address entered by a user can be instantly cross-checked with PAN or driving license data.
India has over 1.3 billion Aadhaar holders, many of whom face challenges such as paperwork delays, limited digital access, and the requirement for in-person updates. Officials say the new app will reduce dependence on physical visits and make the process quicker, reliable, and more citizen-friendly.
The initiative is part of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s (MeitY) larger push for digital governance and aims to strengthen transparency and ease of access to government services.
If launched on time, the e-Aadhaar app could mark a major shift in how Indians update and manage their Aadhaar records, setting a new benchmark for digital service delivery.
