Chinchwad, 9th September 2025: A late-night movie outing turned violent in Chinchwad on Friday after a 29-year-old technician and his wife were allegedly assaulted inside a local multiplex while watching the newly released horror film The Conjuring: Last Rites.

According to police, the incident took place after the technician, a resident of Bijlinagar, requested a co-viewer to stop spoiling the film’s suspense by loudly narrating upcoming scenes. Initially, the matter settled down, but tensions flared again during the interval.

The accused, identified as a resident of Vallabhnagar in Pimpri, allegedly abused and physically attacked the technician. “He dragged me by my shirt collar and repeatedly kicked me on my face, stomach, and hands,” the victim stated in his complaint.

When the victim’s wife tried to intervene, the accused and his wife allegedly hurled abuses at her and physically assaulted her as well. Both injured victims were later admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Chinchwad police station sub-inspector S J Mohite confirmed that a complaint had been registered on Sunday. A case has been filed against the couple from Vallabhnagar under sections 117, 115, and 352 of the Indian Penal Code. The accused are currently absconding, and police have launched a search operation.

Meanwhile, The Conjuring: Last Rites—directed by Hollywood filmmaker Michael Chavez and starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson—continues to draw large crowds, having crossed the ₹50 crore mark at the Indian box office by Sunday.
