Koregaon Park, 11th September 2025: Construction on the new Sadhu Vaswani bridge in Koregaon Park has reached roughly 50% completion, pushing the expected opening date to at least March 2026. The delay has extended the period of traffic disruptions, affecting daily commuters in the surrounding areas.

Since 2024, motorists traveling to Koregaon Park, Wadia College Chowk, Bundgarden, and Council Hall have had to navigate traffic diversions designed to facilitate the bridge work. Many commuters report that the detours significantly increase travel time.

Demolition and Construction Progress
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) began work on the new bridge last year. A significant portion of time was spent demolishing the old Sadhu Vaswani bridge, which spanned railway tracks. Civic officials claim that construction is now progressing as scheduled.

A PMC representative stated, “The project is delicate and challenging because the bridge is being constructed above active rail tracks. All work is being carried out in coordination with the railway authorities to ensure train operations are not disrupted.”

The old bridge demolition was also a joint effort between PMC and the Railways, reflecting the complexity of building infrastructure over live tracks.

Features of the New Bridge
Once completed, the bridge will have four lanes, doubling the capacity of the old two-lane structure. It will directly connect Koregaon Park to VVIP Circuit House Road, reducing congestion on the existing Mangaldas Road-Wadia College-Bundgarden stretch.

Additionally, PMC has proposed a new water pipeline beneath the railway tracks. Earlier, the pipeline ran above the tracks along the old bridge, which will not be feasible with the new structure. Tunnel work for the pipeline has already commenced, pending clearance from the Railways.

Civic officials say the bridge, when completed, will significantly improve commuting efficiency in the area and ease the daily burden on motorists.
