Pune: Hinjawadi-Wakad Flyover Closed for Two-Wheelers During Peak Hours
Wakad, 11th September 2025: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate’s Traffic Branch has temporarily prohibited two-wheelers from using the Hinjawadi-Wakad flyover at Bhujbal Chowk. The measure, introduced on Thursday morning, is being trialed to manage congestion in the area.
Hinjawadi Traffic Police stated that this arrangement will remain in place for at least two weeks. Since no formal circular has been released, the decision has caught many commuters by surprise.
Police Inspector Rahul Sonawane, who oversees the Hinjawadi Traffic Division, told The Free Press Journal, “We announced the change via loudspeakers from Thursday morning. The flyover is narrow and lacks dividers, so restricting it to four-wheelers will help reduce bottlenecks.”
PI Sonawane added that the restriction applies only during peak hours: from 8 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 9 pm.
“Outside these timings, two-wheelers can use the flyover normally,” he clarified. The Bhujbal Chowk flyover is a crucial link connecting Hinjawadi to Pimpri-Chinchwad city and serves as a key entry point for vehicles arriving from Pune.
Alternative Routes for Two-Wheelers
Two-wheelers coming from Wakad towards Hinjawadi should avoid the flyover and take a left at the Surya underpass, followed by a U-turn. The detour adds only 50–100 metres.
Two-wheelers traveling from Hinjawadi to Wakad can take a left at the Sayaji underpass and a U-turn, a detour also around 50–100 metres.
Traffic authorities have urged residents to report any traffic issues arising from the new arrangement. Citizens with suggestions or concerns about the two-wheeler restriction can visit the Hinjawadi Traffic Division office at Bhujbal Chowk or the Traffic Branch Head Office near Elpro Mall in Chinchwad Gaon.Wakad, 11th September 2025: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate’s Traffic Branch has temporarily prohibited two-wheelers from using the Hinjawadi-Wakad flyover at Bhujbal Chowk.
