Chakan, 15th September 2025: After months of recurring electricity issues in Pune’s industrial areas, particularly in Chakan, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has taken steps to resolve the crisis. The capacity of the Chakan power substation has been increased, and it will soon be commissioned with enhanced capacity to provide uninterrupted power supply to industries in the region.

For the past few months, the Chakan industrial belt has been facing severe power shortages due to heavy load on MSEDCL’s distribution system. Frequent supply interruptions, as well as fluctuations in voltage, have disrupted operations. Industrialists reported damage to machinery, wastage of raw materials, and financial losses as a result.

In August, the Federation of Chakan Industries met MSEDCL Chairman and Managing Director Lokesh Chandra, highlighting that despite industries providing land and investing lakhs of rupees in feeders and infrastructure, the power supply remained erratic.

Following the intervention, MSEDCL has installed an additional 50 KVA transformer at the 500 MVA capacity Chakan substation. The new system was inspected by a delegation of the Federation of Chakan Industries along with MSEDCL Superintendent Engineer Yuvraj Jarg. The upgraded substation will begin operations from September 21.

“With the increase in capacity, power problems in the Chakan industrial area will be resolved. This will benefit major companies such as Mercedes-Benz, Sany, Bajaj, and Bosch, along with several small and medium enterprises. However, there will be temporary power cuts on September 21 for the commissioning work, and companies are advised to make alternative arrangements,” said Dilip Batwal, Chief Officer of the Federation of Chakan Industries.

Superintendent Engineer Yuvraj Jarg added, “The capacity enhancement will reduce stress on the power system and ensure smoother supply to industries. We are trying to complete this work at the earliest.”

The move is expected to bring relief to thousands of industrial units across Renuka City, Sara City, Nanekarwadi, and Kuruli, which had been grappling with frequent power disruptions.
