Pune, 16th September 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a crackdown on unauthorized constructions by pubs, bars, and restaurants in several key areas of the city, including Kalyaninagar, Koregaon Park, Mundhwa, Kharadi, Vadgaon Sheri, and Balewadi High Street. Officials revealed that many establishments had illegally encroached on open spaces, built sheds, and even started rooftop bars without permission.

According to PMC, repeated inspections found that these structures not only violated building and civic regulations but also created nuisance and inconvenience for local residents.

So far, the civic body has issued notices to 151 establishments in Kalyaninagar and 40 more in Vadgaon Sheri and Kharadi for non-compliance. “Despite earlier warnings, several establishments continued with unauthorized construction. Notices have now been issued, and demolition of illegal structures will be carried out in the next phase,” said Additional Municipal Commissioner Prithviraj B.P.

In response to the rising violations, a joint committee comprising representatives from the municipal corporation, police, and district administration has been set up. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar announced that the committee will review the situation every fortnight and recommend necessary action.

With the growing nightlife scene in Pune, residents have increasingly raised concerns over safety, congestion, and noise pollution. Authorities have assured strict enforcement to curb illegal operations and maintain order in the city’s popular entertainment hubs.
