Pune Road Rage: Gang Members Open Fire in Kothrud, One Seriously Injured
Kothrud, 18th September 2025: Panic gripped Kothrud late Wednesday night after members of the Nilesh Ghaywal gang opened fire near Shinde Chawl, barely 200 meters from Kothrud police station in Shashtrinagar. The attack left one person, identified as Prakash Dhumal, seriously injured. He was rushed to a private hospital for treatment.
According to police, five men — Musa Sheikh, Rohit Akhade, Ganesh Raut, Mayur Kumbhare, and another unidentified accused — were involved in the firing. They allegedly fired three rounds at Dhumal, hitting him in the neck and thigh, around 11.30 pm. It is reported that the firing was done because the vehicle was not allowed to pass.
In a desperate bid to save his life, Dhumal ran towards a nearby building, climbed onto a water tank, and hid. A local resident, Sachin Gopalghare, later provided him water and assistance. Bloodstains and footprints were found around the building, marking the trail of his escape.
Gopalghare claimed that police reached the spot nearly half an hour after the attack, despite the proximity to the police station. The delay has sparked outrage among residents, who fear for their safety.
The incident has raised serious questions about the preparedness of Pune Police. Locals demanded strict action against gang activities, warning that such brazen violence near a police station reflects poorly on law enforcement’s ability to protect citizens.
