Range Hills, 20th September 2025: Intense rainfall on Thursday left three rail underpasses on the Khadki-Bopodi stretch waterlogged, causing severe traffic disruption for almost half an hour. Commuters highlighted that the poor condition of these underpasses and the approach roads has worsened the situation, prompting urgent calls for repair.

One underpass near the government hatcheries connecting Range Hills Road has seen knee-deep water accumulating over several days. Another, close to the Khadki police station, suffers from potholes and seepage, while the Bopodi underpass requires resurfacing and structural repairs.

A regular commuter on this route said, “The condition of the carriageway hasn’t improved in four months. Water seeps continuously into the underpass, and two-wheeler riders are especially cautious during heavy rains because the road becomes treacherous.”

Another commuter added, “Many vehicles got stuck due to waterlogging and potholes at the Khadki underpass. Pedestrians are hesitant to pass through the flooded area near the government hatcheries. These ageing facilities need urgent revamping. Temporary repairs are simply not enough.”

The frequent flooding and deteriorating road conditions have prompted commuters to demand immediate action from authorities. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Khadki Cantonment Board are reportedly planning a joint project to widen and upgrade the underpasses, but work has yet to begin.

PMC officials have assured residents that repair work will be carried out soon, but commuters remain sceptical, noting that previous patchwork repairs have lasted no longer than two weeks.

Thursday’s flooding has once again underscored the need for long-term structural improvements to ensure safe passage for both vehicles and pedestrians along this crucial stretch.
