New Delhi, 21st September 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 5 pm today, though the Prime Minister’s Office has not officially confirmed the subject of his speech. Speculation is high that he may speak on the implementation of new GST rates and urge citizens to promote indigenous products during the upcoming festival season.

The Prime Minister has frequently emphasized the importance of local manufacturing and indigenous products during his visits to Manipur, Bihar, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. Analysts suggest that today’s address may reinforce this appeal.

Another subject likely to feature in the speech is US President Donald Trump’s decision to increase application fees for H-1B visas, which is expected to impact Indian professionals significantly. Reports state that millions of Indians apply for the visa each year, with more than 300,000 Indians receiving it in 2024 alone.

Previous Addresses

This will be Modi’s first national address since May 12, when he spoke on Operation Sindoor. In that 22-minute speech, the Prime Minister outlined India’s stance on 12 critical issues, including the Pahalgam terror attack, Pakistan and terrorism, nuclear weapons, the ceasefire, indigenous weapons, and India’s policy on a “new era of warfare.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Modi addressed the nation eight times between 2020 and 2021, covering topics ranging from lockdowns and relief packages to food security and appeals for public cooperation. His November 8, 2016, address announcing demonetization of ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes remains one of his most impactful speeches.

Upcoming Visits to Northeast

Following today’s address, Prime Minister Modi will visit Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura on September 22. In Itanagar, he is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for a ₹5,100 crore project and address a public meeting.

Later in the day, he will travel to Udaipur in Tripura to offer prayers at the redeveloped Tripureshwari Temple in Gomati district. The temple, one of the 51 Shaktipeeths, has been restored at a cost of ₹52 crore to promote religious tourism. Modi’s 45-minute visit will not include a public address. This will mark his 11th visit to Tripura since 2014, his most recent being on April 17, 2024.

The Prime Minister’s speech today is being closely watched, as policy announcements made during such addresses have often carried significant economic and political implications.
