IIM Mumbai’s New Pune Centre to Start Academic Programs in 2026
Pune, 21st September 2025: Pune, long regarded as the “Oxford of the East” for its rich academic heritage, is set to welcome a new milestone in management education. The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai, one of the country’s premier management institutes, will soon establish a centre in Pune, bringing world-class management programs closer to students in the city. This will be the second IIM centre in Pune after Nagpur IIM’s campus in Moshi, Pimpri Chinchwad.
The proposal for the IIM Mumbai’s Pune centre was put forward by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Murlidhar Mohol, and has been formally approved by IIM Mumbai’s Dean’s Committee and the Vidya Parishad. The decision marks a historic step in Maharashtra’s educational and industrial landscape.
Speaking about the development, IIM Mumbai Director Prof. Manoj Kumar Tiwari said, “We will begin capacity development programs and short-term executive training programs at the proposed Pune centre from the academic year 2026. We are sincerely grateful to Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol for providing this opportunity, which will allow IIM Mumbai to contribute significantly towards the goal of Developed India 2047.”
Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol highlighted Pune’s strategic advantages, saying, “Mumbai is the financial capital, and Pune is the hub of technology and education. Establishing the IIM Mumbai centre here will create a ‘Knowledge Corridor’ between the two cities, setting a new benchmark for industrial and educational collaboration in the country.”
The Pune campus is expected to serve as a catalyst for entrepreneurship, enabling innovative ideas to transform into successful businesses through world-class management education. It will also strengthen the city’s position as a leading technology, manufacturing, and IT hub.
The new IIM Mumbai centre is seen as a significant addition to Pune’s academic ecosystem, promising opportunities for the next generation of students while reinforcing the city’s reputation as a key educational and industrial destination in India.
