Pune, 22nd September 2025: In a major crackdown on organized crime, Faraskhana Police Station has registered a case against Suryakant alias Bandu Andekar and 11 other gang members, including Andekar’s wife, for allegedly extorting over Rs 20 Crore as ‘protection money’ from fish traders in Ganesh Peth for the past 12 years.

The case, filed on September 20, 2025, cites Sections 308 (Extortion), 308(4) (Extortion by threatening to kill), 111 (Committing organised offences), and 3(5) (Common purpose) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to the complaint, the Andekar gang systematically terrorized fish traders, demanding protection money from business premises and other operations. Investigations suggest that the gang extorted over Rs 20 crore from traders over more than a decade, pushing many into debt and forcing them to tolerate the gang’s activities due to fear of retaliation.

A complainant revealed how the gang operated an organized system of extortion, collecting monthly payments while using intimidation and threats to maintain control over the market. This complaint prompted the police to act decisively against the criminal network.

Under the leadership of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Pune City Police have intensified efforts to dismantle organized crime gangs in the city. “This strict action sends a strong message that citizens should not live in fear and are encouraged to report crimes without hesitation,” said a police official.

The case is currently under investigation by Police Inspector Ajit Jadhav of Faraskhana Police Station. Police have appealed to people to file complaints if anyone intimidates them and extorts money.
