Mumbai/Pune, 23rd September 2025: The Maharashtra government has approved ₹59.75 crore for the repair and widening of the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur National Highway No. 548D (formerly State Highway 55), covering km 0/00 to km 54/00. State Public Works Minister Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale said the project will ease traffic congestion, improve road safety, and provide significant relief to industrial traffic along this critical route.

The upgrade plan includes a four-lane elevated road and a parallel four-lane surface road between Talegaon and Chakan, and a six-lane road between Chakan and Shikrapur. The project will be executed on a Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) basis.

Originally part of the State Road Development Plan (2001–2021), the highway was later designated as National Highway 548D by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and transferred from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC).

Minister Bhosale noted that the highway had suffered damage due to heavy rainfall, necessitating major repairs. “This road is industrially significant and sees heavy traffic daily. Its current condition has led to congestion, safety hazards, and frequent accidents. With these upgrades, commuters and industrial vehicles will benefit greatly,” he said.

The decision follows a meeting held on 30 July 2025 in Pune district with local representatives and departmental officers, during which authorities were instructed to submit proposals for the repair and widening work. After persistent follow-ups, the required funds have now been sanctioned at the state level.

The project is expected to enhance connectivity, improve safety standards, and support the industrial belt along the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur corridor.
