Pune Court Sentences Wanowrie Man to 20 Years for Sexual Assault of Minor
Wanowrie, 23rd September 2025: A Pune court has sentenced 56-year-old Sanjay Ramesh Sharma to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl at his Wanowrie residence. The court also imposed a fine of ₹37,000, with an additional nine months of imprisonment in case the fine is not paid.
The offences reportedly took place between August 3 and October 29, 2021, at Sharma’s home in Wanowrie.
According to the complaint, the accused lured the minor, who had visited his house for classes, into his bedroom. He is said to have threatened her by claiming harm would come to her sister and assaulted her.
Following the complaint, Wanowrie Police registered FIR No. 393/2021 under Sections 376 and 376(3) of the Indian Penal Code, along with Sections 4(2), 5(1), 8, and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
The investigation was led by Police Sub-Inspector Sudha Chaudhary, currently posted in Greater Mumbai, who submitted the chargesheet in a timely manner.
Based on the evidence presented, the Additional Sessions Court and Special Court (POCSO) in Shivajinagar delivered the verdict on September 23, 2025. Public Prosecutor Nitin Konghe and court pleader Dinesh Jadhav represented the case under the supervision of DCP Zone 5 Pune City, Dr. Rajkumar Shinde.
