Pune: Raktabija Rakshcha Vadh Enactment Captivates Devotees at Mahalaxmi Mandir

Sarasbaug, 24th September 2025: The age-old mythological tale of Raktabija Rakshcha Vadh was brought to life outside Mahalaxmi Mandir on September 23, drawing a captivated audience of devotees and spectators.
A troupe of 35 artists enacted the epic battle between Goddess Mahakali and the demon Raktabija, combining powerful dialogues, traditional music, and elaborate costumes. The portrayal of Goddess Mahakali’s courage and the dramatic defeat of Raktabija left the audience spellbound.
The tale of Raktabija holds deep cultural significance. According to legend, the demon had a boon that every drop of his blood would give rise to another demon, making him nearly invincible. Goddess Kali overcame this by spreading her tongue across the battlefield, consuming every drop of his blood before it could touch the ground, ultimately destroying him completely.
Interestingly, this performance has also traveled internationally, with live shows staged in Sydney, the USA, and Poland, where it was met with enthusiastic reception.
Organizers noted that the universal theme of good triumphing over evil resonates strongly across cultures, making the play appealing to audiences both in India and abroad.
