Pune, 21 October 2026: Women from the Bengali community celebrated Vijayadashami with traditional Dhunuchi dance and Sindoor Khela at Congress Bhavan in Pune on Wednesday. The celebrations were organised as part of Bangiya Sanskriti Samsad’s Durga Puja festivities ahead of the immersion of Goddess Durga.
Dressed in traditional red-and-white sarees, women gathered at Congress Bhavan to participate in the rituals marking the final day of Durga Puja. They applied sindoor to one another and exchanged festive greetings as they prepared to bid farewell to Goddess Durga.
Dhunuchi dance was one of the highlights of the celebrations. Women performed the traditional dance while holding dhunuchis, incense burners used during Bengali religious rituals. The performance added to the festive atmosphere as devotees gathered to mark the conclusion of the festivities.
Sindoor Khela, an important Bengali tradition observed on Vijayadashami, saw women applying vermilion to one another as a gesture of goodwill and prosperity. The ritual marked the emotional farewell to Goddess Durga before the idol was taken for immersion.
The celebrations brought members of the Bengali community together at Congress Bhavan to honour their cultural heritage and observe the traditions associated with the conclusion of Bangiya Sanskriti Samsad’s Durga Puja.
