Pune: Cluster-Level Solid Waste Management Project Planned for Villages Near Chakan
Chakan, 29th September 2025: Rapid industrialization and urbanization in Pune district have significantly increased the volume of solid waste, making management at the village level increasingly challenging. With insufficient land available locally for waste management projects, authorities have decided to establish a cluster-level solid waste management project.
In this context, a meeting was held today at Mahatma Gandhi Hall, Zilla Parishad, Pune, chaired by Gajanan Patil, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad. Other officials present included Additional CEO Chandrakant Waghmare, Project Director (District Rural Development Agency) Shalini Kadu, Joint Commissioner (Municipal Branch, Pune Collector Office) Venkatesh Durvas, Sub-Divisional Officer (Khed) Anil Daunde, Regional Officer MIDC Chakan Nitin Gawali, Deputy CEOs Bhushan Joshi (Gram Panchayat) and Appasaheb Gujar (Water & Sanitation), Group Development Officer (Khed Panchayat Samiti) Vishal Shinde, Chief Officer of Chakan Municipality Ankush Jadhav, Executive Engineer MIDC Chakan Bhandge, along with sarpanches and gram panchayat officers from the concerned villages.
During the meeting, it was decided to include villages adjacent to Chakan Municipality and MIDC in the proposed cluster. These villages are Kadachiwadi, Medankarwadi, Nanekarwadi, Kuruli-Kharabwadi, Khalumbre, Mahalunge, Nigoje, Moi, and Ambethan.
Officials presented information on land availability, estimated project costs, and daily solid waste generation from each village. Based on this data, detailed planning was carried out for the joint establishment of a cluster-level solid waste management project, involving all participating gram panchayats.
