Pune: Long-Stalled Culvert Work Resumes at Thite Wasti in Kharadi After Years of Delay
Kharadi, 6th October 2025: In a major relief for the residents of Thite Wasti, the long-pending construction of a crucial culvert has finally resumed, bringing an end to years of inconvenience and safety concerns for the local community.
For several years, residents of Thite Wasti had been grappling with severe flooding during the monsoon, as rainwater entered homes and made it difficult and dangerous to cross the area. The absence of a proper culvert had caused repeated waterlogging and restricted access, resulting in daily hardships.
The project had been delayed for an extended period due to multiple administrative and local issues. Seeking resolution, residents approached Jayesh Maduskar, Chairman of Nyati Elysia Cronus and PMCWarriors, requesting his intervention to help restart the work.
Speaking about the development, Maduskar said, “When we (PMCWarriors) visited the site, we found that the main reason for the delay was the proposed relocation of a tree that held religious significance for local citizens. After understanding the residents’ sentiments, we coordinated with Suryawanshi, Deputy Engineer, and Susheel Mohite, Junior Engineer from PMC, and explored alternate design options to avoid relocating the tree.”
He further added that the revised design was promptly approved and a new work order was issued, allowing construction to resume without further delay.
As interim relief, Maduskar and his team also facilitated GSB (Granular Sub Base) work with the help of the PMC Road Department in the existing area to minimize inconvenience during the Ganpati festival, ensuring smoother movement and safety until the culvert is completed.
Both Suryawanshi and Mohite have played a key role in several civic initiatives in coordination with PMCWarriors, including ongoing road and footpath restoration along Riverfront Road.
Local residents expressed gratitude for the swift action. Kamble, a resident of Thite Wasti, said, “Maduskar has always supported us in resolving various civic issues. Resuming this culvert work is truly a life-saver for our community.
Another resident, Lavand, added, “PMCWarriors have helped us on several occasions. We always reach out to Maduskar without hesitation, and this time again, his intervention brought long-awaited relief.”
The completion of the culvert is expected to significantly improve connectivity and reduce flooding issues in Thite Wasti, highlighting how active citizen participation and effective coordination between residents and civic authorities can bring lasting change to local communities.
