Pune, 12th October 2025: A large number of students from colleges affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) in Pune, Ahmednagar, and Nashik have raised concerns after their Permanent Registration Numbers (PRNs) were blocked by the university. The issue has affected several students whose academic sessions have ended, disrupting their admission, examination, result, and degree processes.

Due to the blocking of PRN numbers, many students have been unable to register for further studies or apply for examinations, leaving their academic future uncertain. In response, a delegation representing the affected students met SPPU Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Parag Kalkar and submitted a formal statement demanding the immediate unblocking of the PRN numbers.

The delegation highlighted that several students could not complete their education within the prescribed time due to personal, financial, or health-related reasons. They argued that blocking PRNs in such cases was against the university’s responsibility toward inclusive education and student welfare.

“The university should consider this issue from a humanitarian and educational standpoint. Denying students the opportunity to complete their degrees will cause irreparable academic loss,” the statement read.

Accepting the representation, Dr. Kalkar assured the students that the university would review their demands and take a positive decision. The students have expressed hope that the administration will act swiftly to protect their academic rights and prevent further disruption.

Student representative Shiva Barole said that the blocking of PRNs had pushed thousands of students into uncertainty. “If the university does not act soon, the future of many students will be in darkness. We appeal to the administration to take a student-friendly decision,” he added.

The students now await an official response from the university regarding the reactivation of their PRN numbers.
