Pune: Woman Abused After Objecting to Late-Night Birthday Celebration in Swargate; Case Registered
Swargate, 15th October 2025: A woman resident of Shalom Society on Shankarsheth Road was allegedly abused and pushed after she objected to two men celebrating a birthday and consuming alcohol in front of her society’s entrance late at night. The Swargate police have registered a case against one of the accused in the incident.
According to police, the incident took place on October 13, when the accused and his friend were cutting a cake and drinking alcohol at the society gate. Hearing the noise, the complainant woman asked them to stop and questioned their behaviour. Enraged, the duo allegedly abused and pushed her, following which she approached the police.
A case has been registered at Swargate police station, and police sub-inspector is investigating the matter further.
This is not the first such case in the city. Recently, a similar incident occurred in Kothrud, where a group celebrating a birthday in front of a society entrance abused and assaulted residents, including a senior citizen. The Kothrud police later arrested six people and detained a minor in that case.
Over the past few years, late-night birthday celebrations have become a growing nuisance in Pune, often involving loud shouting, alcohol consumption, firecrackers, and even cake-cutting on roads. Citizens have repeatedly complained about the disturbance and potential law-and-order issues these gatherings create.
There have also been reports of groups cutting cakes with sharp weapons at Chowks, raising safety concerns among locals. Residents have urged the police to take strict action against those organizing such midnight celebrations in public spaces.
