Joint Measurement Work for Purandar International Airport Nears Completion; Land Compensation to Begin from November 20
Pune, 16th October 2025: The joint land measurement work for the proposed Purandar Greenfield International Airport — spread across seven villages — is set to be completed today, marking a major step forward for the long-pending project.
According to Pune District Collectorate officials, the actual compensation settlement process for affected landowners is scheduled to begin on November 20, 2025, with the Maharashtra government aiming to complete land acquisition by the end of this year.
If the process remains on schedule, construction tenders for the Purandar airport are expected to be floated in the first quarter of 2026, paving the way for one of Maharashtra’s largest aviation infrastructure projects.
The proposed airport, located around 40 km from Pune city, will feature two parallel runways measuring 4,000 x 60 metres each and is designed for a capacity of 75 million passengers per annum (MPPA). Once operational, it is expected to serve not only Pune but also western and central Maharashtra, significantly boosting regional connectivity and economic growth.
Officials from the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) and the district administration have been monitoring the joint measurement activity closely to ensure transparency and cooperation with local villagers. The process covers areas including Kumbharvalan, Pargaon Memane, Khanwadi, Ekhatpur, Rajewadi, Munjwadi, and Udachiwadi — the seven villages earmarked for the airport site.
The Purandar International Airport project, first announced in 2016, has faced multiple delays due to land acquisition and environmental clearance hurdles. However, with the latest developments, authorities are optimistic that groundwork will begin in 2026, offering Pune a much-needed alternative to the congested Lohegaon Airport.
The state government has emphasized that all compensation and rehabilitation processes will follow fair and transparent procedures to address farmers’ concerns and ensure smooth implementation of the project.
