Pune, 16th October 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday launched India’s first swappable battery heavy-duty electric truck, developed by Blue Energy Motors, calling it a “revolution on wheels” that will redefine the future of sustainable transport.

Speaking at the launch event held at Nighoje near Pune, Fadnavis said the state government will extend all possible support to develop more electric vehicle (EV) corridors similar to the Mumbai–Pune Electric Corridor, in line with the government’s vision for green mobility.

“The electric truck by Blue Energy Motors is a revolution on wheels. Considering its technology and efficiency, this sector is poised for major expansion in the coming years. The Maharashtra government will fully support the development of new electric and battery-swapping corridors,” Fadnavis said.

The event was attended by Amit Gorkhe, Mahesh Landge, Babaji Kale, Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey, Blue Energy Motors Managing Director Anirudh Bhuwalka, Dhirendra Shastri (Bageshwarbaba), Prashant Ruia, Anshuman Ruia, Amit Bajaj, and Kaustubh Dhavase, among others.

Fadnavis noted that heavy vehicles contribute significantly to carbon emissions, and Blue Energy’s innovation marks an important step toward achieving India’s ‘Make in India’ and green transport goals.

“It is a matter of pride that the concept, design, and production of this advanced technology are entirely developed in India — and that too in Maharashtra and Pune,” he said, adding that the project is a result of the MoU signed with Blue Energy Motors at the World Economic Forum in Davos earlier this year.

The Chief Minister also highlighted that the first phase of production will include 10,000 trucks, creating employment and reinforcing Maharashtra’s position as the preferred destination for industrial investment.

“This technology is not just a truck or an EV — it’s ‘software on wheels’. The smart sensors installed in these vehicles can detect overloading, helping ensure road safety and compliance with traffic norms,” Fadnavis said, describing it as the beginning of the ‘Tesla movement’ in cargo transportation.

He further stated that battery-swapping technology would play a pivotal role in the future of the EV sector, with improving battery lifespan and falling prices expected to double the vehicle range to 400 km.

Fadnavis also reiterated the state’s commitment to renewable energy:
“By 2035, 75 to 80 percent of Maharashtra’s energy needs will be met through solar power.”

Result of Davos MoU
The Chief Minister emphasized that the Blue Energy Motors project was one of the first to materialize from agreements made at Davos, marking visible progress in attracting sustainable industrial investments.

In his address, Anirudh Bhuwalka, Founder and Managing Director of Blue Energy Motors, said the company had earlier introduced India’s first LNG truck in September 2022 as a cleaner alternative for freight transport.

“Electric vehicles are the future, and this launch is a step toward achieving our goal of zero carbon emissions,” Bhuwalka said.

Following the event, Fadnavis personally test-drove the electric truck, familiarizing himself with the new swappable battery system and praising the team’s engineering excellence.

The launch also marked the formal inauguration of Blue Energy Motors’ Mumbai–Pune Electric Corridor, aimed at accelerating the adoption of green logistics and reducing the carbon footprint of heavy transportation across Maharashtra.
