Pune, 16th October 2025: In a major crackdown ahead of the festive season, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), under the guidance of Minister Narhari Jirwal, seized adulterated food stock worth Rs 1.98 crore. The operation was part of the department’s campaign, Festival of Maharashtra – Resolution for Food Safety, aimed at protecting public health and ensuring consumer safety.

During the campaign, 353 food establishments across Pune were inspected, and 196 establishments were issued improvement notices. The FDA collected 654 food samples, including khawa, sweet mawa, cow ghee, edible oil, milk, paneer, butter, bhagar, and other products for laboratory testing.

Out of 216 sample reports received, 190 were certified as safe, 5 were found of low quality, 8 were counterfeit, and 13 were deemed unsafe. Legal action is being taken against all establishments found violating food safety standards.

“We urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspected adulteration in food items during the festive season. People can call our toll-free number 1800 22 2365 to lodge complaints,” said Suresh Annapure, Joint Commissioner, FDA Pune Division.

The FDA has emphasized that such operations will continue regularly to ensure food safety and protect consumer interests, especially during festivals when demand for sweets and dairy products surges.
