Pune Police Bust Illegal Cockfighting Den

Wanowrie, 20th October 2025: The Wanowrie police station conducted a raid on Sunday targeting illegal gambling involving cockfighting, arresting six individuals and seizing valuables worth over Rs 5.11 lakh.

According to Senior Police Inspector Bhausaheb Patil, the operation was launched following secret information received by policemen Amol Pilane and Gopal Madane during routine patrolling on October 19. The tip-off indicated that a group was conducting cockfights for money in an open space behind Empress Garden. Two police teams were dispatched to the location, confirmed the activity, and laid a trap to apprehend the accused.

The arrested have been identified as Amol Sadashiv Khurd (47) from Raviwar Peth, Mangesh Appa Chavan (55) from Bhavani Peth, Nikhil Manish Tribhuvan (20) from Ghorpadi, Amir Ayub Khan (28) from Ghorpadigaon, Sachin Sadashiv Kamble (42) from Bhavani Peth, and Pranesh Ganesh Param (27) from Camp, Pune.

Police seized six colourful roosters, six transport bags, three motorcycles, five mobile phones, and Rs 2,580 in cash from the accused, bringing the total value of seized items to Rs 5,11,880.

A case has been registered against the individuals at Wanowrie Police Station under Section 12(B) of the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act and provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

The investigation team was supervised by DCP (Zone 5) Rajkumar Shinde and ACP (Wanowrie division) Dhanyakumar Godse. The team included Senior PI Bhausaheb Patil, PI (Crime) Vijaykumar Doke, API Umakant Mahadik, police personnel Daya Shegar, Mahesh Gadve, Amol Pilane, Atul
Gaikwad, Abhijit Chavan, Yatin Bhosle, Ashish Kamble, Gopal Madane, Balaji Waghmare, Vishnu Sutar, Amol Gaikwad, Vitthal Chormale, Arshad Syed and Sujata Phulsunder.
