Satara, 24th October 2025: In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through Maharashtra’s medical fraternity, Dr. Sampada Munde, a female doctor posted at Phaltan Sub-District Hospital in Satara district, allegedly died by suicide. Before taking the extreme step, she reportedly left a handwritten note on her palm, naming two individuals — including a police sub-inspector (PSI) — for allegedly harassing and assaulting her.

According to police, Dr. Munde wrote on her palm, “PSI Gopal Badne raped me four times. Prashant Bankar mentally tortured me.” The note left investigators stunned and prompted immediate action. A case has been registered against PSI Gopal Badne and Prashant Bankar, who is believed to be the owner of the house where the doctor lived.

PSI Suspended After CM’s Intervention
Following the incident, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reportedly intervened and directed immediate suspension of PSI Badne, who was posted at Phaltan Rural Police Station. Satara District Superintendent of Police Tushar Joshi confirmed that a special team has been formed to trace the absconding officer.

Doctor Found Dead in Hotel
Police said Dr. Munde was found dead in a hotel room in Phaltan on Thursday night. The body was taken into custody and sent for post-mortem after a panchnama. Preliminary investigation suggests suicide.

Alleged Pressure to Falsify Autopsy Report
The deceased doctor’s cousin has claimed that she was under immense pressure from police and political figures to submit a false autopsy report in a sensitive case. “She tried to complain about it but no one took her seriously. My sister should get justice, and the accused must be punished,” her brother said.

He further alleged that Dr. Munde was being mentally and physically tortured for refusing to comply with the pressure. It is also reported that she had filed a written complaint with her seniors warning that she would die by suicide if the harassment continued, but her grievance was allegedly ignored.

Long-Standing Conflict Between Police and Health Departments
Sources said Dr. Munde had been embroiled in a dispute between the police and health departments over an earlier medical examination case. A departmental inquiry had been initiated against her after she reportedly argued with police officials during a post-mortem examination. The ongoing investigation and administrative stress reportedly pushed her into deep mental distress.

Widespread Outrage in Medical Circles
The incident has triggered widespread outrage among doctors and healthcare workers in Satara and across Maharashtra. Medical associations have demanded a high-level inquiry and strict punishment for those responsible for her death.

Phaltan City Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation. Search operations are underway to trace both accused.
