Pune: Passport of Notorious Goon Nilesh Ghaywal Cancelled in Kothrud Firing Case
Kothrud, 24th October 2025: The passport of notorious gangster Nilesh Ghaywal, who fled abroad after the Kothrud firing incident, has been cancelled by the Passport Office following a request from Pune Police. Ghaywal had allegedly obtained his passport using fake documents from a rural area in Ahilyanagar.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) Sambhaji Kadam confirmed that the cancellation was carried out after police traced the use of forged documents and submitted an official request to the Passport Office.
On September 17, members of Ghaywal’s gang had opened fire on a youth in the Kothrud area and attacked another person with a sickle, spreading panic in the locality. Several gang members were later arrested. Police have booked Ghaywal, his brother Sachin Ghaywal, and their aides under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
During the investigation, it was revealed that Ghaywal fled to Europe using a forged passport. Police also discovered that his son is pursuing studies in London. Further scrutiny showed that Ghaywal had obtained the passport under a slightly altered name — “Gaywal” instead of “Ghaywal” — to evade detection.
Meanwhile, Ghaywal’s brother Sachin, who has been absconding since the MCOCA action, remains untraceable. Sachin reportedly works as a sports teacher at a school. Both brothers and their associates are also accused of threatening a woman entrepreneur, extorting ₹44 lakh, and forcibly taking possession of ten flats from a builder.
According to police, seven criminal cases have so far been registered against Nilesh Ghaywal.
