Hinjawadi–Baner Pune Metro Section to Open in 2-3 Months; PMC to Develop Four Parking Lots
Pune, 28th October 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved the development of parking facilities at four locations along the upcoming Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line 3. The move aims to provide convenient parking options for commuters using the metro service.
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), which is implementing the Metro Line 3 project, had earlier requested eight locations for passenger vehicle parking along the corridor. After deliberations, PMC has sanctioned four of these sites for development.
According to Dinkar Gojare, Head of the PMC Project Department, the civic body will undertake the development of the parking areas on its own. “The Municipal Corporation will develop the parking facilities, and a decision on their operation and management will be taken after discussions with the Metro authorities,” he said.
The selected parking locations include Balewadi Amar Tech Park, Balewadi Iris Society, Baner Cosmos Society, and a site near ABZ in Baner. These locations are situated between 200 and 400 metres from the nearest metro stations, making them easily accessible for commuters.
The first phase of the Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro, connecting Hinjawadi to Baner, is nearing completion and is expected to be operational within the next two to three months. The entire 23-km stretch is likely to be launched within a year. The parking facilities are expected to play a key role in easing last-mile connectivity and reducing roadside parking congestion once services begin.
Officials from the Project Department said that while PMC will develop the infrastructure, the final decision on who will operate these parking facilities will be made jointly with the Metro administration. “The parking charges will be decided by PMC, and if the operation is handed over to the Metro, rent will be collected accordingly,” the official added.
The initiative is part of the civic body’s efforts to support the Metro network by improving commuter convenience and promoting public transport use in the city’s growing western corridor.
