Kharadi, 30th October 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a major demolition drive against large-scale illegal constructions in the popular Khau Galli area near Govindsagar Society, stretching from Old Mundhwa Road to Sangharsh Chowk Nagar in the Chandannagar area of Kharadi.

The Building Development Department (Zone No. 1) carried out the operation, demolishing unauthorized structures spread over approximately 17,500 square feet. The illegal constructions included hotels, grocery shops, snack centers, and various other commercial establishments, as well as unauthorized extensions on façades and shared spaces.

The action was taken under the guidance of Executive Engineer Suresh Sakhale, and the supervision of Deputy Engineer Vivek Dubbewar, Junior Engineer Umesh Godge, and Draftsman Yogesh Gurav. During the drive, the team removed tin sheds, partially built structures, and commercial encroachments.

Following the demolition, the PMC’s Building Development Department appealed to citizens not to reconstruct or use façades and common areas for commercial purposes. The civic body has also warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found violating these orders.

Municipal officials stated that the growing number of illegal constructions in public and common spaces across Pune has been contributing to traffic congestion, sanitation problems, and safety risks for residents.
