Pune: Woman Dies After Rock Falls Through Car Sunroof in Tamhini Ghat Landslide
Raigad, 30th October 2025: A tragic accident occurred on Thursday morning in the Tamhini–Mangaon Ghat area of Raigad district, when a rock dislodged by a landslide crashed through the sunroof of a moving car, killing a woman on the spot.
According to police and local sources, a family was travelling from Pune towards Mangaon in a luxury car when the incident took place near Kondeghar village, a stretch notorious for frequent landslides during and after the monsoon season.
Suddenly, a portion of the hillside collapsed, sending rocks tumbling down onto the road. One sharp rock pierced through the car’s sunroof and struck Snehal Gujarathi, who was seated beside the driver, on the head.
She suffered severe head injuries and was immediately rushed to the nearby Modi Clinic for treatment. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The tragic incident has sparked grief and concern among commuters and local residents. Authorities have urged travellers to exercise extreme caution while passing through Tamhini Ghat, especially during unstable weather conditions when the risk of landslides is high.
Police have registered a case of accidental death and are coordinating with the Public Works Department (PWD) to assess the stability of the hillside and implement preventive measures.
