Bavdhan, 31st October 2025: Residents of Bavdhan have raised serious concerns over the deteriorating condition of the road connecting Bakaji Corner to the National Highway, where rubber speed bumps installed during the Gram Panchayat period have now worn out, leaving sharp iron nails exposed on the surface.

The damaged speed bumps, once placed to control speeding and prevent accidents, have now become a safety hazard, especially for two-wheeler riders. Locals say the rubber layers have eroded due to the constant movement of heavy vehicles, causing the embedded nails to protrude onto the road. These nails are difficult to spot under sunlight, leading to frequent tire bursts and falls, resulting in injuries to motorists.

The speed bumps were originally installed when Bavdhan was under Gram Panchayat jurisdiction to address recurring accidents caused by overspeeding. However, after the area was brought under the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), residents allege that the administration has neglected road maintenance in the locality.

Despite multiple complaints made to the Municipal Corporation and the Transport Department, no corrective action has been taken so far. The road is heavily used by school buses, passenger vehicles, and heavy trucks, increasing the risk of a major accident.

Local residents have demanded that the traffic police install warning boards and that the PMC immediately remove the damaged speed bumps and reconstruct new ones to prevent further mishaps.

When contacted, officials from the PMC Road Department were unavailable for comment.
