Pune, 1st November 2025: After months of citizen complaints over deteriorating road conditions, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to launch an intensive ‘Pothole-Free Road Campaign’ beginning November 3. The civic body will deploy 15 specialized teams and engage seven contractors to carry out large-scale repair and resurfacing work across major routes in the city.

The decision follows repeated grievances from commuters and residents, as well as heavy rainfall since May that worsened existing potholes. Continuous utility digging and poor-quality restoration have also contributed to unsafe road conditions and traffic disruptions.

Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, who recently inspected civic and infrastructure projects across several areas, took a serious note of the situation and directed the Road Department to initiate a citywide repair drive.

Under the campaign, each of the 15 road repair teams will oversee the restoration of approximately 10 kilometres of road network. The work will be monitored by PMC’s Road Department to ensure strict adherence to timelines and quality standards.

Officials emphasized that the drive will focus on durable, long-lasting resurfacing instead of temporary patchwork. Contractors will be expected to use high-quality materials and adhere to approved specifications.

“The Pune Municipal Corporation is fully committed to making the city’s roads pothole-free. Dedicated teams and contractors will carry out repairs to ensure smoother and safer travel for citizens. This is a public service initiative, not a profit-driven one,” said Naval Kishore Ram, PMC Commissioner.

Typically, PMC allows road excavation for service lines until April, with strict directions to restore roads immediately after completion. However, many stretches have remained damaged due to poor compliance or use of substandard materials.

The new campaign aims to rectify these shortcomings and ensure that critical stretches across all major wards are repaired before the onset of winter. Civic officials hope the initiative will restore public confidence in the city’s infrastructure and significantly improve daily commuting conditions.
