Pune, 2nd November 2025: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Pune unit, has arrested Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Pramod Chintamani, attached to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹2 crore. He was caught red-handed while accepting ₹46.5 lakh as the first installment in Pune.

According to ACB officials, a case of cheating and forgery had been registered at the Bavdhan Police Station against a father-son duo whom the complainant, a lawyer, is representing before the court. The investigation was being handled by PSI Chintamani.

The father was arrested, and currently he is in judicial custody.

Initially, Chintamani had allegedly demanded ₹2 lakh from the complainant to help his clients. The complainant approached the ACB, and on October 27, a verification process was conducted by the ACB. However, PSI Chintamani allegedly increased his demand from ₹2 lakh to ₹2 crore.

He also reportedly told the complainant that ₹1 crore from the total bribe amount would be given to his senior police inspector.

A deal was finalized to pay ₹50 lakh as the first installment on November 2 at Rasta Peth, Pune. The ACB laid a trap, and Chintamani was caught red-handed while accepting ₹46.5 lakh, of which ₹1.5 lakh were real notes and ₹45 lakh were dummy (toy) notes used for the operation.

Following the operation, a case has been registered against PSI Pramod Chintamani at the Samarth Police Station under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The ACB is investigating whether other officers were involved in the alleged bribe demand, given Chintamani’s claim about sharing the money with a superior officer.

The trap was laid under the supervision of Superintendent of Police (ACB-Pune range) Shirish Sardeshpande, Additional SP Ajit Patil and Arjun Bhosale and DySP Dayanand Gawde.

The team included Police Inspectors Prasad Lonare, Avinash Gharbude, police personnel Bhushan Thakur, Ravi Divekar, Supriya Kale, Praveen Taware, Vikas Adke, Deepak Divekar and Chavan.
