Mumbai, 3rd November 2025: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of ₹51 crore for the Indian women’s cricket team after their historic ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 victory against South Africa at DY Patil Stadium on Sunday.

Remarkably, the BCCI’s reward exceeds the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) own prize purse of US$4.48 million (approximately ₹39.78 crore).

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said the decision to award ₹51 crore was taken to honour the team’s remarkable triumph. “This is a proud moment for Indian cricket. The entire nation is celebrating the women’s team’s achievement,” Saikia said.

He also credited BCCI and ICC Chairman Jay Shah for his role in boosting the women’s game globally. “Just a month before the tournament, Jay Shah increased the ICC Women’s World Cup prize money by nearly 300%. The BCCI is additionally providing ₹51 crore from its own funds, without touching the ICC prize money,” Saikia added.

The reward amount will be distributed among players, selectors, and the support staff led by head coach Amol Muzumdar.

Shefali Verma and Deepti Sharma Shine in Final
In a spectacular all-round performance, Shefali Verma — who replaced the injured Pratika Rawal — scored 87 runs and claimed two wickets. Deepti Sharma also played a crucial role, scoring 58 runs and taking five wickets to seal India’s maiden Women’s ODI World Cup title.

Batting first, India posted a commanding total of 298 runs. South Africa, in reply, were bowled out for 246, handing India a 52-run victory and a historic World Cup triumph.

The win marks a defining moment for Indian women’s cricket — one that could usher in a new era of recognition, investment, and fan following for the sport.
