Pune: ‘Radio Parvaj’ Launched at Yerwada Women’s Prison to Promote Positivity and Rehabilitation

Yerwada, 4th November 2025: In a step towards strengthening rehabilitation and positive transformation among inmates, Yerwada Central Jail launched a new initiative titled Radio Parvaj for women prisoners on Monday. The project has been started in collaboration with the India Vision Foundation, Delhi, and SLB, under the reform-oriented motto of the Prison Department — “Reform and Rehabilitation.”

The Radio Parvaj room was inaugurated by former Governor of Puducherry and retired IPS officer Kiran Bedi, who has long been known for her work in prison reforms. The in-house radio channel aims to inspire women inmates through programs featuring motivational talks, yoga and meditation sessions, stories of freedom fighters, life lessons, Panchatantra tales, women empowerment discussions, legal awareness content, as well as spiritual and entertainment songs.

According to the prison administration, the initiative will help women inmates overcome disappointment, build confidence, and develop a positive attitude toward life while serving their sentences.

The launch was also attended by respected members from the SLB company that has sponsored this project. Namely their Global head & IT Centers Director Mr Abuzar Manager, STSI Manager Amit Yadav, PuTC Manager Jayesh Prajapati, Finance head Pune Dheeraj Gupta and their CSR head Riya Khanduri.

SLB has sponsored the entire Radio room project as apart of their CSR contribution to Yerwada Prison. The launch was also attended by India Vision Foundation team including Monica Dhawan, Saina Bharucha, Hina Qureshi, Shilpa, Sarika, Govind and Hina.

The concept was initiated under the guidance of Additional Director General of Police and Inspector General (Prisons and Correctional Services), Maharashtra State, Dr. Suhas Warke, and Special Inspector General of Prisons, Yogesh Desai.

Superintendent Sunil N. Dhamal, Additional Superintendent P. P. Kadam, Jail Officers Maya Dhuture and Nirmala Bandal, and teacher Trinakshi Gawli were instrumental in the successful planning and implementation of the Radio Parvaj project.
