Pune/Mumbai, 5th November 2025: The Maharashtra State Examination Council has announced special examination centres for Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) candidates from Bengali, Kannada, Telugu, and Gujarati mediums, citing a lower number of applicants in these language groups. The TET exam is scheduled to be conducted on November 23, 2025.

In an official press release, Anuradha Oak, Commissioner of the Maharashtra State Examination Council, said Paper I (for Classes I–V) will be held in the morning session, while Paper II (for Classes VI–VIII) will take place in the afternoon.

This year, over 4.79 lakh candidates have registered for the TET across multiple mediums, including Marathi, English, and other regional languages. However, due to the relatively small number of applicants in certain mediums, the Council has consolidated exam centres for logistical convenience and smooth conduct of the test.

District-Wise Centre Allocation

Bengali Medium:
Candidates from Mumbai, Palghar, Pune, Dhule, Nandurbar, and Jalna will appear in Pune.
Candidates from Nagpur, Gondia, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli will appear in Chandrapur.

Kannada Medium:
Candidates from Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, and Dhule will appear in Thane.
Candidates from Pune, Solapur, Hingoli, Latur, and Dharashiv will appear in Solapur.
Candidates from Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara will appear in Sangli.

Telugu Medium:
All candidates will appear in Pune.

Gujarati Medium:
Candidates from Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Pune will appear in Thane.
Candidates from Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, Nandurbar, and Buldhana will appear in Nandurbar.

Surge in Registrations:
The announcement follows a recent Supreme Court ruling making TET qualification mandatory not only for new teacher appointments but also for existing teachers seeking promotions. The verdict has created a wave of concern among non-TET-qualified teachers currently serving in schools, many of whom have now applied to appear for the upcoming exam.

Teacher unions across Maharashtra have been demanding relief measures and an extension for in-service teachers to meet the new qualification norms. As a result, the November 23 TET has witnessed a significant increase in applications compared to previous years.
