Pune Firefighters Rescue 99-Year-Old from Burning Sixth-Floor Flat in Dhankawadi
Dhankawadi, 9th November 2025: A 99-year-old man suffered serious burn injuries after a fire broke out in a residential flat on the sixth floor of a building near Dnyaneshwar Housing Society, close to Shankar Maharaj Math in Dhankawadi, on Sunday afternoon.
According to Pune Fire Brigade officials, the incident occurred around 1 pm when flames engulfed the house, causing panic among residents. The fire reportedly originated in the kitchen area and quickly spread, damaging kitchen equipment, electric wiring, wall paint, and other household items.
Firefighters from the Katraj and Gangadham fire stations rushed to the spot after receiving an emergency call. They brought the fire under control using hose reel lines and extinguishers, preventing it from spreading to nearby flats.
During the operation, the fire brigade personnel rescued Baburao Dattatray Mahamuni (99), who was found in a severely burnt condition. He was immediately taken to a hospital by his relatives.
Deputy Fire Officer Santosh Bhilare led the operation along with firemen Kiran Patil, Vinayak Ghagare, Yogesh Kumbhar, Akshay Devkar, Shubham Bobde, and driver Bandu Gogavale from the Katraj Fire Station. They were assisted by firemen Rajesh Ghadashi, Shailesh Gore, Akshay Modhe, Dnyaneshwar Kadam, Dhananjay Bhise, and driver Prasad Shinde from the Gangadham Fire Station.
Officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation. Prompt action by the fire brigade helped avert a potential disaster in the densely populated locality.
